Foundation Wall has Been Poured, Well Digging Next

Mike took a few photos for me- I got there right when everything was done. Mike was covered in concrete. They ran out after 5 truck fulls with about 4 inches left to pour in one of the deck piers. They will fill that in when the foundation floor is poured.
Pollock will be digging my well. They expect it to run about 870 feet deep. The price of steel has increased, so my cost has also increased- by a dollar a foot. Should have gone ahead and had it dug a few months ago- coulda' shoulda'.....
This was Memorial Day Weekend. Today I was on my front porch drinking coffee and heard Taps playing. I walked down the street to see where it was coming from. There was a memorial service going on in front of the veteran's memorial on the square. The trumpets sounded mournful.
Long weekend! Full of every sort of activity! Worked in my yard and on Big Hill, played music with Danny, a local guitarist/singer/songwriter, went with Tonya to look for rock for floors/walls/hearth. That's about as full as I ever get in one weekend.
Back to the grind manana. Time for siesta.

A Small Pool with Heater and Jets

Chad, the pool guy, tells me that's what I am building. It's 6 ft. by 7 ft.- as big as we could squeeze onto the master bedroom deck. Tiny for a pool, biggish for a hot tub, and complete with a spectacular view!
The bluebonnets might not have been as ubiquitous this spring, but their absence seems to have opened up room for a ton of different flowers. The roadsides and hillsides are speckled with color.
Mike's guys are shoring up my wall for a 10.0 earthquake, or so it seems. Tim, the foreman, says they are doing this to keep the concrete from pushing the walls out as they pour it in the foot wide channel all around the perimeter of the house. They also built a wall for around the "small pool" and the pier footing for the deck. Lots of concrete. They will pour on Friday, which means I will miss all the fun. That's one of my favorite things to watch on TV on home building shows. Mike has my camera so he can take photos for me.
Yesterday I went out to work a bit and the first thing I saw was a 6 foot snake. I ran to grab my camera and was focusing on him holding his neck up to look for me, I suppose, and right when I was ready to take the shot he moved. I could hear him slivering on the leaves, but was never able to find him again. It was some sort of non poisonous variety, but I still didn't go picking up rocks to find him! I sure wish I had gotten that shot. I did get some nice shots of a buzzard atop an electricity pole on the way home. I just love it out here.
A Mighty Foundation

Mike's crew is still working on the foundation. The footing is complete and the outer wall form is being built. Next step will be to pour cement and then fill with dirt. The well house is blacked in- Mike didn't use transparent siding at the top like I asked but says he plans to add it later.
The progress seems slow to everyone, even Mike. He promises that will change once the foundation is completed. He also says he has lost sleep over getting this part of the construction done right. It is impressive.
One thing I am happy about is how the foundation looks when seen from below on CR 2012. It is quite dramatic- and it's only the foundation so far that you see. I think Glenn (my architect/brother) will like it. It reminds me of one of those houses I've seen in the past and wondered what lucky person lived there. Crazy that it's going to be me.
